When people around the country think of the Iowa Hawkeye women's basketball team, they most likely think of the name Caitlin Clark.

Which is rightfully so. She did things in her college career that had never been done in women's or men's college basketball. She has her scoring record cemented in Carver-Hawkeye Arena forever.

While fans outside of the state of Iowa might only think of Caitlin Clark when it comes to Hawkeye basketball, Iowans can name the entire starting 5 and probably most of the 13-woman roster.

Caitlin Clark wasn't the only Hawkeye to have her name called in the 2024 WNBA draft. Iowa Hawkeye fans are also rooting for Kate 'The Glue' Martin as she hopes to continue her WNBA journey.

Kate Martin Making a WNBA Roster?

Kate Martin, often referred to as 'the glue' of the team, became one of the fan favorites of the Iowa Hawkeyes. She always seemed to be in the right place at the right time and provided the Hawkeyes with whatever was needed at exactly the right time.

Whether she was hitting a big-time shot when they needed it, grabbing an offensive rebound to give the team a second chance at scoring, or playing lockdown defense, those traits helped her become the 18th pick in the WNBA draft.

She was drafted by the Las Vegas Aces and after another round of WNBA cuts yesterday (May 6), 4 players are fighting for Vegas' last three roster spots.

With 4 players left and 3 spots available, Kate has earned a 75% chance to make it on the final roster at the start of the Las Vegas season opener, on May 14th. Whether it's the NBA or WNBA, there are only so many roster spots on a basketball team, and normally players drafted in the second round have to fight tooth and nail to make a basketball club. Kate has a pretty good shot at being one of the few selected 2nd round picks to do so.

If she makes the final roster, she can play alongside another incredible college basketball star, Kelsey Plum, who previously held the women's scoring record before Caitlin Clark.

Kate isn't trying to prove anything and she's only trying to be herself.

The WNBA's final roster cuts on May 13th and the Los Vegas Aces have 1 more preseason game left on their schedule. There's 1 more opportunity for Kate Martin to prove she belongs as they take on the Puerto Rico National Team on Saturday, May 11th, according to Hawkeyes Wire.

I'm not sure if this is any indication but Kate does seem to appear on the Las Vegas Aces social media regularly. This could be a hint that the team is anticipating her to make it to the final roster. '

Will Kate's dreams of becoming a professional basketball player come true? Everyone will find out on May 13th.

Iowa is the capital of the Midwest! Ok, that's unofficial, but it's my stance. Here's what NON Iowans think of us.
