GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Billy Donovan is leaving a successful college coaching career at Florida to take the reins of the NBA's Oklahoma City Thunder.

Donovan led the Gators to two national championships, four Final Fours, seven Elite Eights and 14 NCAA Tournament berths in 19 years. He replaces Scott Brooks who was fired after the Thunder failed to make the playoffs this season.

Donovan left Florida in 2007 to take the head coaching job with the NBA's Orlando Magic, but changed his mind the following day and returned to the Gators.

Donovan takes over a Thunder team that features former NBA MVP Kevin Durant and 2014-15 NBA scoring champ Russell Westbrook.
