There are few traits more valuable in sports than versatility. A major reason why 2024 Heisman Trophy Winner Travis Hunter was drafted 2nd overall in the 2025 NFL Draft was because he can play both Wide Receiver and Cornerback at a high level of efficiency.

For most football players, they will play both offense and defense in High School. But once those players get to the college level, they are told to focus on just one position and one side of the ball to become the best they can be and maximize their potential.

Now, one South Jersey High School Graduate is being asked to train at a position he has not played in ten years. But this could be an opportunity to get more playing time with his current NFL team.

New Jersey High School Graduate At NFL Mini Camp Practicing New Position

Ten years ago, when Cedar Creek High School reached the NJSIAA South Jersey, Group 2 Championship Finals in consecutive seasons, their star player played both offense and defense all season.

Bo Melton was a dynamic high school athlete who excelled as both a Cornerback, Wide Receiver, and Offensive Weapon for the Cedar Creek Pirates. But when he attended Rutgers University, the Football Coaching Staff converted Melton to a full-time Offensive Player.

After compiling 15 Total Touchdowns during his College Football career, Bo Melton was selected in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He has spent the last two seasons playing for the Green Bay Packers, where has has one regular season and one postseason touchdown.

But after the Packers drafted another Wide Receiver in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft and the team released two-time Second Team All-Pro Cornerback Jaire Alexander, Bo Melton is being asked to train at a position he hasn't played in almost ten years:

On Tuesday's Pat McAfee Show, ESPN NFL Insider Peter Schragger explained that since Green Bay only has three Cornerbacks on the roster at mini-camp, Bo Melton was thrust into the role of getting reps on the defensive side of the ball.

Nine-year NFL Defensive Back Darius Butler said on PMS that Melton looked good making his break at a Corner, and the show reminded the audience that three-time First Team All-Pro Cornerback Richard Sherman played Wide Receiver in college before becoming an NFL Cornerback.

I am looking forward to seeing if Bo Melton will get a legitimate opportunity at the Cornerback position. He is an incredible athlete, and if anyone can make the transition at the Professional Level from Wide Receiver, he certainly has the physical tools to do it.

Melton is one of 22 South Jersey High School Graduates who have played regular-season games in the NFL. Check out the full list here:
