On a scale of Level 1 to Level 5, there are ENHANCED RISKS(Level 3) to this storm system moving in the South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota areas. The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls explains the exact timing and location of these storms that could cause a lot of damage in South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota.

Eastern parts of South Dakota and western parts of Minnesota will be heavily impacted by Monday's storms, especially Sioux Falls.

A potentially significant severe weather episode (risk level 3 of 5) may develop Monday afternoon as early as 2pm and continue into the early overnight hours of Tuesday. All hazards are possible including hail greater than 2", 75+ mph winds, and even a few tornadoes. It is critical that you continue to monitor the forecast through the day and have a way (or 2!) to receive warnings.

On top of this scary severe weather heading towards the Tri-State area, the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls says there's a strong heat wave happening throughout the day on Monday.

The hot & muggy conditions will continue through Monday with heat index values ranging from 100-110 degrees across the area. Otherwise, an active pattern aloft will lead to multiple precipitation chances throughout the week with a few stronger storms possible.

Our weather partners at Dakota News Now explain Heat Advisories and Excessive Heat Warnings will be in effect for parts of the Sioux Empire for most of Monday.
