South Dakota is known for helping neighbors when they are in need. A community in South Dakota rallied around a boy named Maddux Reed who suffered an unfortunate lawnmower accident.

After long hospital stays and procedures, five-year-old Maddux returned home and the town of Rapid City wanted to honor him. What better way to celebrate a special kiddo than with a parade?!

After the scary lawnmower accident, Maddux's injury resulted in losing a portion of his leg. He's a brave kid and the Rapid City Solid Waste Division along with the city wanted to recognize his courage.

Maddux is a huge fan of garbage trucks. The Rapid City Solid Waste Division came up with the idea of throwing a parade of city vehicles through Maddux's neighborhood. With the help of the Rapid City Police Department, the Rapid City Fire Department, and the Mayor of Rapid City Jason Salamun, Maddux got the ultimate Rapid City parade!

This parade might not seem like much. But to Maddux and his family, it meant the entire world to see Rapid City is supporting their family during this difficult time.

A little support can go a long way! Maddux was super happy to see all the trucks, especially the garbage trucks and his friend Driver Bob!

Maddux became a big fan of the solid waste trucks at a very early age, always making sure neighbors have their trash out on time and connecting each Friday with his favorite trash collection driver Bob. The two always exchange waves and smiles on the drive through.

As a special gift, Bob gave Maddux a photo of the garbage truck that was signed by the entire waste management team. They even nicknamed the garbage truck in the photo after him...Maddux. How sweet!

South Dakota is cheering for you, Maddux!
