To commemorate International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day, AFSP is hosting an event at the Downtown Sioux Falls Public Library (Meeting Room B) on Saturday, November 22nd from Noon - 2 pm. A meal will also be provided for those in attendance.

According to its website, it's a day in which survivors of suicide loss come together to find connection, understanding and hope through their shared experience.

Also known as "Survivor Day", it was first designated by Congress in 1999 and helps those affected by suicide come together for healing and support.

Fabre Sullivan (pictured above) Chairperson of the AFSP Out of the Darkness Walk, will be on hand and encourages those who have been personally affected by the tragedy of losing a loved one to suicide to attend.

If you were at the suicide prevention walk this year, you may remember me saying, that suicide prevention doesn't stop here, this is something I meant and take seriously. I've kept working on preventing suicide through selling my baked goods at farmers markets, telling my story, continued fundraising and now by hosting this event my hope is to continue to bring loss survivors together to reduce the stigma associated with suicide. This would help those who are struggling with their mental health to seek the help they need, which is crucial in preventing suicide. I know that by sharing the story of my siblings that I am helping those around me share their stories, the more we share, the less stigma there is. This is the goal. Survivor day is a day of remembrance, connection, support, and healing. It's also a day of hope. My hope is that we work together to spread awareness and show others who have experienced suicide loss that they are not alone.

-Fabre Sullivan, Chairperson, AFSP Out of the Darkness Community Walk, Sioux Falls
