Jump Rope Takes Center Stage At Sioux Falls Championship
Remember the childhood rhyme about "Cinderella Dressed in Yellow...?
Jumping rope is such a big part of American childhood. Well, okay, it might be an international thing, but I can only tell you about childhood in my part of the world, and in my childhood, it was huge.
Jumping solo was a good time waster when there wasn't anyone else to play with, but at school, it was definitely a group activity. Becoming really good at double-dutch jump roping was considered quite the accomplishment.

I never did master that art, but I was a particularly good rope spinner, and that allowed me entrance into the jump rope club, as it were.
Now, I find out that there are still people promoting and loving this sport well into adulthood!

Dakota News Now is reporting that the American Jump Rope National Championship is coming to Augustana University from June 29 to July 3. This is South Dakota’s first national jump rope tournament.
It will be held at the Elmen Center, 2505 S. Grange Avenue, and around 900 people are attending, with 19 teams from 11 states participating.
Competitive jump rope has two main disciplines: single rope and double Dutch. The athletes in these events are assessed in agility, creativity, and teamwork. In speed events, the focus is on completing the most jumps in a set time. Top competitors can achieve scores of over 200 jumps in 30 seconds!
Jessica Nicholson, the President of the American Jump Rope Federation, says:
These athletes are always pushing the limits—you’ll see something new and inspiring at every competition!
