National Kidney Foundation Dakotas Exciting Events Coming Up
The National Kidney Foundation/Dakotas (NKF/Dakotas) is dedicated to the "awareness, prevention, and treatment of kidney disease". To further that mission, every year they raise funds by putting on a number of great events.
That includes the National Kidney Foundation Pre-Golf Social and Casino Night and the Willow Run Golf Classic.
The Pre-Golf Social is coming up on Tuesday, August 13, at Monick Yards in downtown Sioux Falls beginning at 5 PM. Tickets are $40 per person and include heavy appetizers catered by Chef Dominique and initial chips for the casino.
The National Kidney Foundation Golf Classic at Willow Run is on Friday, August 16. Registration is at 7:30 A.M. with a shotgun start at 9 A.M.
You can also get in on some great items with the NKF/Dakotas Silent Auction which is going on now and you don't need to be present to win. You'll find personal care items, artwork, jewelry, spa packages, food items, Minnesota Twins tickets, and much more!
Thirty-seven million Americans have Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), 100,000 people are waiting for a kidney transplant, and millions of others are at risk for CKD but don't know it, because it often has no symptoms until it is advanced. CKD has two main causes, diabetes and high blood pressure. Ironically, two diseases that can go undiagnosed until a person has alarming symptoms.
But there are indicators that you could be at an increased risk.
- High blood pressure - Can cause chronic kidney disease and conversely CKD can cause high blood pressure
- Diabetes
- Family history of chronic kidney disease
- If you are age 60 or older
- If your BMI (body mass index) is 30 or above
- If you are African-American, Hispanic, Asian, a Pacific Islander or American Indian
