If you’ve spent more than five minutes driving around Sioux Falls once the weather gets above 50 degrees, you already know, it’s officially motorcycle season in the Sioux Empire.

And while most riders are out there enjoying the open road responsibly, soaking up all that South Dakota scenery, there’s always that guy. You know the one. Flying down 41st Street or Louise Avenue on a crotch rocket like he’s auditioning for a role in the motion picture, The Fast and the Furious!

If you happen to be a motorcycle enthusiast, you should know there is now a brand-new motorcycle training range in Sioux Falls that is open, giving riders a chance to sharpen their skills and, hopefully, keep things a little less “Fast & Furious” and a lot more “safe and smart.”

According to Dakota News Now, the new range is located at the South Dakota Department of Transportation’s Sioux Falls Area office, near 60th Street North and Marion Road.

This isn’t a solo effort either. The project is a joint partnership between the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety and the South Dakota Safety Council, aimed at making roads across Sioux Falls and the entire state a safer place for everyone.

And before you roll your eyes thinking this is just for beginners, think again. The Sioux Falls motorcycle safety training courses are designed for all experience levels. Offerings include Basic Rider Training, eBasic courses, and more advanced options like a Braking and Cornering Clinic. There are even plans to roll out online courses for three-wheelers and off-road vehicles in the near future.

Every South Dakotan knows that South Dakota and motorcycles go together like summer and construction season. The state's love for motorcycle riding far exceeds the annual Sturgis Rally. South Dakota was built for two wheels, thanks to its open spaces and scenic beauty. So this new training range is an absolutely perfect thing for the Rushmore State.

The new training range officially opened on Thursday, April 23, and classes will run from April through October. If you’re thinking about riding or just want to become a better rider, this is your chance to learn without becoming the next viral video of “what not to do” on social media.
