'Diamond Dave' had four different runs fronting Van Halen. The first, and most memorable, came from 1972 to 1985, when he sang on the band's first six studio albums, including 1984, which peaked at #2 on the Billboard Album Chart and gave Van Halen their only #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100, 'Jump'.
In 1985, Roth launched a solo career that saw him release six studio albums, including two top tens (Eat 'Em and Smile and Skyscraper) and a #1 single on the Billboard Rock Chart, 'Just Like Paradise'.
He later reunited with Van Halen in 1996, 2001, and 2007. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
