Traffic flow is changing again at a major road construction project along Interstate 90 in South Dakota.

According to the South Dakota Department of Transportation, beginning Monday (November 11) at 7:00 PM, the eastbound and westbound lanes on I-90 will be temporarily closed and traffic will be diverted through the on and off-ramps in Brandon (Exit 406).

The closure will allow crews to remove an old exit bridge.

This traffic diversion will be maintained through the overnight until approximately 6:00 AM, Tuesday (November 12), however, officials are advising that evening lane closures and traffic diversions may occur on four consecutive overnights.

The work is part of a $41.3 million project which includes the reconstruction of Exit 406 with added lighting, signals, and mainline Interstate work. This project also includes three structure replacements.

The interchange will be reconstructed as a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI). Westbound I-90 lanes (along with the railroad structure on I-90) will be reconstructed in 2024 and the eastbound lanes in 2025. The interchange and new structure over I-90 will be reconstructed between the 2024 and 2025 construction seasons.

The anticipated overall completion of the DDI reconstruction project is June 2026.
