Temporary Bridge Closures Coming to I-29 in South Dakota
Traveling over a pair of bridges along Interstate 29 in South Dakota will be limited later this month.
According to the South Dakota Department of Transportation, beginning Monday, February 24, the bridges at Exit 9 and Exit 15 near Jefferson and Elk Point will be undergoing repairs that will include joint replacement, bearing replacement, abutment repair, box girder end repair, approach cold milling, asphalt concrete resurfacing, and guardrail resetting.
During the project, lane closures will take place with temporary speed limit reductions and portable traffic control signals used to move traffic through the work zones.
Once abutment repair begins, the bridges will be temporarily closed to traffic. The Exit 9 bridge is anticipated to be closed for six weeks and the Exit 15 bridge for three weeks. The bridges will not be closed at the same time.
During the closures, traffic will be directed to the signed detour route on I-29.
Work will begin on the Exit 9 bridge with the Exit 15 work scheduled to start in late April.

The $1 million is scheduled to be completed on October 31.
