Tide Lands Elite Outfielder From Northern Kentucky on Monday
On Monday, the Crimson Tide made its first addition to the outfield from the transfer portal. Rob Vaughn and his coaching staff have been on a roll recently, bringing in three pitchers: Matthew Tippie (Texas State transfer), Kaden Humphrey (North Florida transfer), and Evan Steckmesser (Samford transfer). They also added an infielder, Brennan Holt (South Alabama transfer), from the transfer portal since the season ended on May 31.

Logen Devenport, a former outfielder for Northern Kentucky, announced on Monday that he will transfer to Tuscaloosa for his final season of eligibility. Devenport shared the news via his Instagram account.
Devenport attended Franklin Community High School in Franklin, Indiana. In his junior season, he posted a batting average of .388, scored 21 runs, and batted in 28.
Alabama's newest commit was named a First-Team All-Horizon League honoree this past season. The 6-foot, 185-pound outfielder had an impressive performance at the plate, finishing the 2025 season with a batting average of .423, which led the Horizon League. He also led the league with a 1.319 OPS and a .786 SLG percentage. This season, he hit 14 home runs and recorded 71 hits, including 19 doubles and 54 RBIs.
Devenport started his career at Northern Kentucky as a pitcher. In his freshman season in 2023, he made 19 appearances out of the bullpen while recording five saves and maintaining a 4.82 ERA. In Devenport’s sophomore season, he became primarily used as a position player, with the Tide’s newest outfielder appearing in only three games out of the bullpen in 2024. He appeared in 52 games as a position player, which was great for Devenport, who finished his sophomore season with a .305 batting average.
It wouldn't be surprising if the former Northern Kentucky pitcher makes a couple of appearances early next season on the mound for Alabama. However, don't be alarmed if he isn’t a regular bullpen member. The team has added three new pitchers this offseason, and with potential weekend starters like Tyler Fay and possibly Zane Adams returning, especially if Adams doesn't pursue a professional career next season, his playing time on the mound could be limited.
Regardless of where he plays next season, this is a massive get for Vaughn and his staff, with Devenport being a great guy to throw in left field, where Captain Kade Snell played last season. The Tide's captain in the previous season also led the team with a batting average of .363. Devenport is an excellent prospect for trying to fill Snell’s role. Devenport is experienced in collegiate play and has performed at a high level despite not playing in a Power Five conference. However, he did have a five-hit game this season against Miami, a team that gave the Tide its first loss in the Hattiesburg regional this past offseason.
