Alabama Rising for Five-Star Safety Jireh Edwards
The Crimson Tide hosted a big recruiting weekend last weekend, featuring four five-star prospects that Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama staff hope to land in the coming weeks when top recruits announce their commitment decisions.

Five-star safety Jireh Edwards is among the players Alabama hosted over the weekend. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound safety from Upper Marlboro, Maryland, completed his third of five official visits after visiting Alabama on June 6, with visits to Texas A&M and Oregon still on his schedule for June. However, the Tide seems to have impressed Edwards on his visit.
On3 Sports' Steve Wiltfong joined Josh Newberg to discuss Edwards's visit with the Tide, saying Alabama is surging past contenders Georgia and Oregon for the top-25 prospect in the 2026 recruiting class.
"It's been a fluid recruitment, but I think it's Alabama now," Wiltfong said. "Coming out of this visit, he said the experience was outrageous. The people, the love, the family, it was everything you could ask for. Coach DeBoer is a great person and great coach; he also has great people in the building that will develop you on and off the field."
"I think Alabama is in pole position for Jireh Edwards. The question now is, can they land the No. 2 and No. 3 safeties in the country?"
Edwards is the No. 2 safety in the country, and the No. 3 safety is Bishop Gorman five-star Jett Washington. Washington has already taken an official visit to Alabama on May 30 and just wrapped up an official visit to Oregon on June 6. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound safety from Las Vegas, Nevada, seems to be down to a decision between the Crimson Tide and the Ducks.
Alabama already has one five-star defensive back committed in the 2026 class, with five-star Marietta, Georgia, cornerback Jorden Edmonds committing in March. Edmonds was on campus over the weekend on his official visit, trying to help the Tide land one of the top prospects in the 2026 recruiting class.
