Chesnut Hill, MASS. — Tuesday, Boston College officially tabbed former Alabama quarterback Dylan Lonergan as their week one starter, per ESPN's Pete Thamel.

Lonergan transferred to Boston College after two years at The Capstone, where he completed seven of eight passes for 35 yards, tacking on 21 yards with his legs. Lonergan was one of two ex-Alabama players to transfer to BC this offseason, joining tight end Ty Lockwood.

The redshirt sophomore battled with Grayson James for the starting job throughout camp, eventually coming out on top. However, BC head coach Bill O'Brien, who initially recruited Lonergan to Alabama as a high school prospect, noted that both Lonergan and James will get a chance to play this year.

James, a redshirt senior, filled in for Tommy Castellanos last season after the now-FSU quarterback was benched and left the team.

During that five-game span, James led the Eagles to a 3-2 record, registering 1,202 passing yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions.
