Play Ball! South Dakota Baseball Exhibit Will Be on Display at the South Dakota Cultural Heritage Center

The changing of the season from winter to spring signifies a lot of things.  New leaves on trees, green grass and the anticipation of enjoying the outdoors. But it also means the beginning of summer's greatest pastime:  baseball.

Parents are already beginning to get themselves ready to sit at the ball diamonds, either with their own kids as the players or maybe taking the baseball fans on a journey to a major league baseball stadium. South Dakota isn't lucky enough to have their own major league baseball team, but there is still plenty of baseball traditions in our great state.

The South Dakota Cultural Heritage Center is celebrating South Dakota baseball with an exhibit called 'Play Ball! The National Pastime in South Dakota.' It will be on display in the Hogen Gallery of the Museum through April of 2016.

'Play Ball!' traces the history of baseball in South Dakota from territorial times to present day using artifacts, images, video and hands-on activities.

Museum Director Jay Smith says that baseball has always been a part of South Dakota's history.

It has influenced community development and built community traditions across the state that still come alive each spring. We are delighted to invite the citizens of South Dakota and our visitors to visit the Cultural Heritage Center in Pierre and enjoy this remarkable exhibition.

The museum and the exhibit are open during regular museum hours (9:00AM to 4:30PM Monday through Saturday and 1:00PM to 4:30PM on Sunday.) There is an admission fee for adults, but kids 17-years old and under are free.
