Tony Kanaan had one more lap, one anticlimactic last lap under the yellow caution flag, to end 12 years of frustration in the Indianapolis 500. Kanaan is Indy's hard-luck loser no more. He is its champion at last, fittingly with a dose of good luck for a change.
Bump Day at Indianapolis followed the script. No surprises, no drama and no drivers getting bumped. All nine drivers who made attempts on the second and final day of Indianapolis 500 qualifications made it into the 33-car field, led by two young Americans -- Josef Newgarden and Graham Rahal -- who easily had the two fastest cars on the track.
Ed Carpenter turned Pole Day into a family celebration. The stepson of IndyCar founder Tony George became the first member of the Hulman family to win the biggest pre-race event in the series -- the Indianapolis 500 pole.
Danica Patrick says she does not plan to race in this year's Indianapolis 500 because she wants to concentrate on her first full-time season in NASCAR's Sprint Cup series.
