LOS ANGELES (AP) — You know you have a surplus of goaltending when you demote the NHL leader in goals-against average and save percentage.

UNDATED (AP) — A little bit of hockey history could be made tonight in Los Angeles when the Kings host San Jose.

Anze Kopitar and Jeff Carter scored shootout goals for the Los Angeles Kings, who rallied to beat the Minnesota Wild 3-2 on Thursday night in the season opener for both teams. Matt Cooke and Jonas Brodin scored in regulation for Minnesota, which had never lost a home opener in its first 12 seasons (11-0-1).

With their grip starting to slip on a spot in the playoffs, the Minnesota Wild responded with one of their most complete, aggressive performances of the season.

Justin Williams and Jeff Carter scored 98 seconds apart on the first two shots of the game, Williams added a goal on Los Angeles' first shot of the second period, and the Kings beat the Minnesota Wild 3-0 on Thursday night behind Jonathan Bernier's first shutout of the season.

Mikko Koivu scored the winning shootout goal and had two assists in regulation. Matt Cullen and Charlie Coyle also had goals, and Niklas Backstrom stopped 28 shots for Minnesota in the Wild's 4-3 win over the Los Angeles kings Saturday night.
