The Buffalo Bills Have Franchised Jarius Byrd

Every off season, NFL teams have to decide who they will put the franchise tag on and not allow them to leave the team in free-agency.

Teams right now are making those decisions and laying down the "Franchise Tag" on certain players.

The most interesting aspect of this is typically, the guy who is franchised, is not typically the "franchise" player.

The Buffalo Bills made another example of that this off season.

They have franchised defensive back Jarius Byrd.

Granted he was a Pro-Bowler this season, he's not a household name, nor considered a "Franchise Player".

He played for the Bills since they took him in the second round of the 2009 NFL draft, started all 16 games last season and had five interceptions and four fumble recoveries in 2012.

The franchise tag ensures that Byrd won’t be going anywhere. If he ends up signing the tender offer, he’ll play this season for a one-year base salary of $6.9 million.
