For the second time this season, Sioux Falls captured a win over a new franchise. In this edition, it was a road win over the Long Island Nets 124-116 on Monday afternoon.

There’s a lot of season left, but the Skyforce (7-2) have won seven of their first nine games this campaign which is slightly ahead of last year’s pace. Long Island (2-9) despite their record is not a team devoid of talent. Forward Chris McCullough and guard Yogi Ferrell were assigned by the Brooklyn ball club to supplement the D-League roster that’s been hit hard by injuries.

Ferrell was hit by the injury bug himself and played only 12 minutes while McCullough did his part by topping the Nets in both scoring and rebounding with 24 points and 8 boards. Guard Beau Beech added 20 points and Trahson Burrell scored 19.

Both teams worked at a frenzied pace as the two teams combined for almost 200 shots from the floor. However, the Skyforce were able to hold Long Island to 42 percent shooting for the game and get the overall edge on the board which compensated for their 24 turnovers.

A third quarter 18-point bulge for Sioux Falls was whittled down to two late in the game. Marcus Posley and Luis Montero each connected from long range to put the game out of reach.

It was the big men who filled a lot of stat columns as Okaro White compiled 28 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals and Keith Benson racked up 25 points, 14 rebounds and 5 blocks. Jabril Trawick came off the bench to amass 18 points and Posley finished with 16 counters.

Both teams will be back on the court Wednesday. Long Island will continue their home stand with a game with Erie while Sioux Falls heads to Grand Rapids to face the Drive.
