Wednesday’s NBA Summary
Pistons 94, 76ers 76
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Greg Monroe had 19 points, 18 rebounds and six assists to help the Detroit Pistons beat the Philadelphia 76ers 94-76 for their first win of the season.
Kyle Singler scored 16 points, and Tayshaun Prince and Brandon Knight each scored 15 points for a Detroit (1-8) team off to its worst start in franchise history. Playing their seventh road game out of nine games this season, the Pistons controlled the lethargic Sixers from the opening tip.
Four Pistons starters scored in double digits and forward Jason Maxiell had eight points and 12 rebounds.
The Sixers easily played their worst game of the season, making only 25 of 84 shots, for 30 percent. Lavoy Allen led them with 14 points.
Without injured center Andrew Bynum, the Sixers continued to get dominated inside. They were outrebounded by 17 in Monday's loss to Milwaukee and got crushed on the boards 33-15 by halftime in this one. Monroe had nine at the break - or as many as the Sixers' starting lineup combined.
Philadelphia missed 30 of 43 shots in the first half and made only 5 of 10 free throws.
The few thousand fans that showed up for a preseason atmosphere in this dreary matchup booed the Sixers off the court at the break.
Celtics 98, Jazz 93
BOSTON (AP) - Paul Pierce hit two free throws with 19.5 seconds left and finished with 23 points, lifting the Boston Celtics to a 98-93 win over the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night.
Jeff Green and Leandro Barbosa each scored 16 points for the Celtics, who won for the fifth time in six games. Kevin Garnett added 11 points and eight rebounds.
Boston's Rajon Rondo had 10 assists before leaving the game for good in the third quarter with a right ankle injury. It was his 32nd straight game with 10 or more assists.
Paul Millsap led the Jazz with 20 points and 12 boards. Al Jefferson had 13 points and 14 rebounds.
Mo Williams missed three shots in the closing minute for Utah, which fell to 1-5 on the road.
Mavs 107, Wizards 101
DALLAS (AP) - Chris Kaman scored 23 points and had eight rebounds in only his second start for the Dallas Mavericks, who held on for a 107-101 victory over the winless Washington Wizards on Wednesday night.
O.J. Mayo had 25 points as the Mavericks snapped a three-game losing streak since Kaman's only other start.
Washington (0-7) had trailed by as many as 22 points before a 15-0 run in the fourth quarter. Cartier Martin capped that spurt with consecutive 3-pointers, swishing the second from the wing right in front of the Mavs bench and coach Rick Carlisle to get within 88-85. Kaman had a short hook on the Mavs next possession.
Martin made another 3 in the closing seconds, but Kaman had another strong inside move and made the free throw.
Grizzlies 107, Thunder 97
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Rudy Gay scored a season-high 28 points, Zach Randolph added 20 points and 11 rebounds before getting ejected along with Kendrick Perkins during a late-game altercation and the Memphis Grizzlies beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 107-97 on Wednesday night.
Marc Gasol chipped in 14 points as the 6-1 Grizzlies continued the best start in franchise history by winning their sixth straight game. They took control by outscoring Oklahoma City by 21 in the second quarter, and never gave it up.
Kevin Durant scored a season-high 34 points and Russell Westbrook had 17 points and 13 assists as both Oklahoma City All-Stars logged more than 42 minutes for the second straight game while trying to lead a fourth-quarter comeback.
This time it fell short as the Thunder had their five-game winning streak snapped.
Bucks 99, Pacers 85
MILWAUKEE (AP) - Brandon Jennings and Monta Ellis scored 16 points each to help the Milwaukee Bucks cruise to a 99-85 victory over the struggling Indiana Pacers on Wednesday night.
Beno Udrih had nine points, 10 assists and six rebounds for the Bucks, who shot 42 percent from the field and improved to 2-2 at home.
Tyler Hansbrough scored 17 points for the Pacers, while Gerald Green and Paul George added 12 points apiece. Indiana, which shot 38 percent, lost its fifth straight on the road after a season-opening win at Toronto.
The Bucks scored the first seven points of the game and led throughout. Their lead was as high as 27 in the second quarter and 32 early in the third before they played their reserves throughout the fourth.
Rockets 100, Hornets 96
HOUSTON (AP) - James Harden scored 30 points, Omer Asik added 15 points and 12 rebounds, and the Houston Rockets held off the New Orleans Hornets 100-96 on Wednesday night.
Harden went 10 for 20 from the field but only 1 of 7 from 3-point range. He reached 30 points for the third time in seven games with the Rockets.
Greivis Vasquez scored a career-high 24 for the Hornets, despite hurting his left ankle in the third quarter and briefly leaving the game. Anthony Davis had only eight points on 2-for-7 shooting.
The Rockets built a 21-point lead in the first half, but the Hornets played better defense in the second to close the gap.
Chandler Parsons sank a pivotal 3-pointer and fadeaway jumper late to help Houston win for the second time in five home games.
Bobcats 89, T-Wolves 87
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Kemba Walker's jumper with 0.7 seconds left lifted the Charlotte Bobcats to an 89-87 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night.
Walker finished with 22 points, five assists and four rebounds, and his 19-footer over the out-stretched arm of Alexey Shved helped the Bobcats to their first three-game winning streak in nearly 20 months.
Byron Mullens had 12 points and 15 rebounds and Ramon Sessions had 18 points and six rebounds for Charlotte, which has won three straight games for the first time since March 2011.
Andrei Kirilenko had 26 points and 12 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who used a 16-2 run to tie the game with 12.3 seconds left.
Bulls 112, Suns 106, OT
PHOENIX (AP) - Carlos Boozer had 28 points and 14 rebounds to help the Chicago Bulls outlast the Phoenix Suns 112-106 in overtime Wednesday night.
Boozer, who scored 31 against Phoenix in the previous meeting last season, was a force at power forward again. He made 11 of 20 shots and had his way inside as the Bulls scored 50 points in the paint. Luol Deng added 21 points and center Joakim Noah had 21 points and 12 rebounds.
Chicago scored six points on putbacks in a 10-0 run that gave the Bulls a 79-61 lead in the third quarter. But the Suns fought back in the fourth by being active on the offensive boards. Luis Scola had 24 points and 14 rebounds, while Sebastian Telfair scored 17 off the bench.

Lou Williams scored 18 points, including three straight 3-pointers that whittled the Warriors' lead to a basket with 11.2 seconds remaining. Josh Smith added 16 points and 10 rebounds for Atlanta, which had Al Horford and Devin Harris out because of a stomach illness.
Clippers 107, Heat 100
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Blake Griffin and Chris Paul had double-doubles, with Paul keying a third-quarter spurt that helped carry the Los Angeles Clippers to a 107-100 win over the Miami Heat on Wednesday night.

LeBron James scored 30 points for the defending NBA champions, who lost their fifth in a row against the Clippers in Los Angeles. Ray Allen added 14 points, including four 3-pointers, as the Heat dropped to 2-2 on their current six-game trip.
Dwyane Wade was held to six points - well below his 18.4 average - playing with a sprained left foot that kept him out of the morning shootaround.
