Dallas Releasing Veteran Linebacker, Wyoming Alum Logan Wilson

LARAMIE -- Logan Wilson is looking for a new home.

The sixth-year linebacker, who spent the first five-plus seasons of his career in Cincinnati before being dealt to Dallas at last year's trade deadline, has been released, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

In seven games with the Cowboys, the Casper native registered 24 tackles and a forced fumble. Wilson requested a trade from the Bengals last October after being benched before a Week 6 meeting with Green Bay.

By cutting Wilson, Dallas will save $6.5 million in cap space ahead of next month's free agency period.

Dallas featured one of the worst defenses in the NFL last season, allowing more than 377 yards per game to go along with 59 touchdowns. Only the Bengals were worse at 60.

Wilson, who played at the University of Wyoming from 2016-19, was Cincinnati's third-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft. He made an immediate impact, tallying 33 tackles and picking off two passes. He added 100 stops and four interceptions in his second season. The last one was a tipped pass off the right arm of Ryan Tannehill that sealed the Bengals first road playoff win in franchise history.

Cincinnati would eventually fall to the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LVI.

Wilson, who would sign a 4-yearcontract extension in 2023, capped his career in the Queen City with 495 tackles in 76 games. He also logged 5.5 sacks and picked off 11 passes.

During his time in Laramie, the former Natrona County High School star was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Year as a rookie and landed First Team honors as a senior. He hauled in 10 interceptions, returning two for touchdowns. He finished his college career with 421 tackles, 35 tackles for loss and seven sacks.

Wilson announced last week he will be again hosting a pair of youth football camps in his home state. The first one will take place Saturday, June 6 inside Laramie's War Memorial Stadium. The Casper camp will be held Saturday, June 20 at Cheney Field. Both go from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
