While summer isn't quite over yet, signs of the season ahead are starting to show up around the Northland. This is yet another one of them.

While some trees have already started to turn to their vibrant fall hues in Northern Minnesota and Northern Wisconsin, and schools are getting ready to welcome back students soon, I keep reminding myself it is still only August. Then, the weather decides to remind us of what's ahead.

Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy fall, but I want to get the most out of what's left of summer before fully pivoting to fall.

Despite my best hopes, parts of Northern Minnesota and Northern Wisconsin are in line to see some very fall-like weather reminders, with a few cool days in store and some overnight temperatures potentially dipping very close to seeing our first frost in the region.

The Duluth office of the National Weather Service shared a heads-up about this coming weekend's fall-like temps. Included in that message is the likelihood that at least a few places in the Northland could see temperatures in the 30s overnight.

Saturday, Sunday, and Monday night it is likely to see widespread overnight low temperatures in the 40s, with some spots away from Lake Superior in Northern Wisconsin and portions of Northern Minnesota, like the Iron Range and places toward International Falls, where there is a strong likelihood of temperatures in the 30s overnight this weekend.

Sunday and Monday night, in particular, look to be the chilliest of those nights. The map above shows areas where 30s are likely on Sunday night. While mid-to-upper 30s are most likely across the region, some areas could see low 30s and potentially our first frost in the region.

While it isn't likely we'll see widespread temperatures in the low 30s, if there is minimal cloud cover on Sunday and Monday night, the National Weather Service isn't ruling out the chance for some isolated locations getting near the freezing point of even seeing the first frost of the season.

If you're near Lake Superior, the "warmer by the lake" factor will help protect you from the coldest possible air this weekend. It'll still be chilly, though!

The good news is that if you're not ready for fall quite yet, this is going to be relatively short-lived. Temperatures do warm up some once again into next week. It won't be a heatwave, but it should be warmer than we see over the weekend.
