University of Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz may have just turned 70, but the head Hawkeye shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, Ferentz and his coaches signed updated contracts with some pretty nice pay increases. Here is where the money is going.
How Much Does Iowa Football Coach Kirk Ferentz Make?
The Des Moines Register reports that Ferentz signed an updated contract back in June. While it does provide Ferentz with a pay raise, it is not a contract extension. Ferentz is signed in Iowa City through January 31st, 2030.
Beginning in February, Ferentz's annual compensation went up. The Register reports that it went from monthly payments of $458,333.33 to $472,916.67. The increase adds up to a yearly raise of around $175,000 more per year. This brings the head Hawk's total yearly salary to just north of $7 million.
What Kind of Bonuses Does Ferentz Have in his Contract?
If the Iowa football team achieves any of the following, the Register reports that coach Ferentz will receive the following bonus.
- Top-six Big Ten regular season finish, but no invitation to the Big Ten Championship Game - $200,000
- Big Ten Championship Game participation - $300,000
- Win Big Ten Championship or go undefeated during the regular season - $400,000

The Register reports that Ferentz would also earn hefty bonuses if Iowa makes the College Football Playoff.
- CFP first round - $200,000
- CFP quarterfinals - $300,000
- CFP semifinal appearance - $375,000
- National runner-up - $625,000
- National Champions - $1,625,000
Did Other Iowa Football Coaches Get Raises?
The Register reports that many other Iowa football coaches also saw raises. Offensive coordinator Tim Lester went from $1.1 million to $1.3 million. Long-time defensive coordinator Phil Parker jumped from $1.9 million to $2,052,000.
