Report: Sixers Sign Ryan Broekhoff to Deal

The Sixers continue to surround Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid with as much possible heading into this season. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN has reported that the Sixers have agreed to sign Ryan Broekhoff to a deal.

Broekhoff was supposed to join the Sixers in the bubble last summer, but would later opt out due to family concerns. The two sides have agreed to come together again, and it looks like he will have a chance to land one of the final roster spots.

Last season, Broekhoff appeared in 17 games for the Dallas Mavericks before being released. He would average 4.2 points per game and shot 39.2% from three in around 10 minutes a night.

This signing gives the Sixers another option of a floor-spacing wing off the bench. At 6'6 Broekhoff will most likely be in competition with Mike Scott for the role of backup stretch four.

With limited cap space to work with, this a solid cost-friendly move by the Sixers. Broekhoff is a reliable knockdown shooter who does most of his shooting off of the catch.

Along with his fit on the team, Broekhoff also has some connections. Like Ben Simmons, he is from Australia and has been a teammate of newly acquired Seth Curry for two years in Dallas.

This move fits the theme of most of this offseason's moves. The second unit adds another spot-up shooter, and Broekhoff's frame brings length as well.

When building a team around superstars like Embiid and Simmons, you can never have enough shooting. Taking a cheap flyer on a guy like Broekhoff is a small risk move that could pan out well if he can be an effective shooter in Doc River's system.
