South Dakota Watermelon Ban? Don’t Believe Everything You Read!

Imagine you're heading to the grocery store to stock up on Memorial Day Weekend provisions only to discover that one of your all-time summer favorites is no where to be found.

That's what the trolls online want you to think.

A pair of social media posts claim that Governor Kristi Noem has banned the sale of sliced watermelon in South Dakota to show support for Israel in the ongoing Gaza conflict.

According to PBS Newshour, watermelon has become a symbol of solidarity with Palestinians for its colors that match the flag and its hardy seeds.

I don't know about you but I've never seen that even closely resembles this place anywhere in the Mount Rushmore State.

That's because it's actually halfway around the world.

The sleuths at Reuters, using Google Street View, pinpointed the location Stortorget Square in Malmo, Sweden - 4,455 miles from Sioux Falls.

Not surprisingly, Governor Noem's spokesperson, Ian Fury, says there is 'no truth' to the watermelon information being shared on social media.
