The Midwest is home to the final major of golf's calendar in 2018 - the PGA Championship, which tees off Thursday (August 9) at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis.

This will be the third time this 7,300 yard course has hosted a major - but the first in more than 25 years.

In this edition of 'Off The Tee', Joel Harrington from 4 Deep Golf blog and I discuss not only the 100th PGA Championship and who is favored to hoist the Wanamaker Trophy, but also the final PGA Championship to come at the end of golf's majors for a season. In 2019, the PGA moves in between The Masters and U.S. Open on the schedule.

We also discuss:

  • Justin Thomas is not only the defending PGA champ, but also has the momentum coming into St. Louis after a four-stroke win at the WGC Bridgestone.
  • Tiger Woods was one-under-par after nine holes on Sunday, but shot four-over on the back nine. Joel says it was as ugly as it sounds.
  • The WGC Bridgestone ends a 54-year run of PGA Tour events at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. Joel talks about the historic course.
  • Tiger will be in the field at the PGA Championship, but he also has something special in the works - a head-to-head big stakes match with Phil Mickelson in November. Joel has the latest information on the duel in the desert.

Speaking of Phil, he's in the news, not because of golf, but because of his dance moves in the new TV commercial for the clothing manufacturer Mizzen + Main. Who knew Phil was so accomplished at doing the worm?
