All is (usually) quiet this time of the year in regard to Men's and Women's College Basketball. That's not the case down in Lincoln, Nebraska unfortunately.
In the days after DeAndre Kane decided to transfer to Iowa State, the former Marshall guard sent a simple, five-word text message to new teammate Georges Niang.
It said: "I just want to win."
Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg wanted to see an up-and-down game against plodding Kansas State, one where the scoreboard would spin like a slot machine as points piled up.
He certainly didn't want to see the Wildcats with 85 by the end of it.
Just minutes after Andrew Wiggins put No. 6 Kansas on his back, scoring six of his career-high 29 points in the defining moment of the game, Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg offered a glowing assessment of the star freshman.
"You can tell he's oozing with confidence," Hoiberg said Wednesday night after his 16th-ranked Cyclones lost 92-81, "and that's scary."
