Heads Up Sioux Falls Drivers: Several Street Projects Start Today

Driving in Sioux Falls will have some challenges this week that will cause headaches for drivers.

Multiple streets in the Sioux Falls area will either be closed or down to one-lane thanks to last-minute maintenance projects in town.

Four street projects will begin on Tuesday, September 3rd (today). Here are all the details from Dakota News Now:

18th Street Closure

West 18th Street will be closed between Dakota Avenue and Center Avenue. Tull Companies will be replacing rooftop units for Touchmark.

10th Street & Cleveland Avenue lane closures

The northbound and southbound left turn lanes on South Cleveland Avenue will be closed at 10th Street to allow crews to work on traffic signal improvements. Additionally, the inside eastbound and inside westbound lanes on East 10th Street, as well as the center turn lane, will be closed between I-229 and Sycamore Avenue to allow crews to perform concrete repairs and overlay the road.

Fairfax Avenue street closure

North Fairfax Avenue will be closed between East Eighth Street and East Ninth Street.

West of Sanford Hospital Utility Work

Crews will be performing repairs to the sanitary sewer at various locations in the area bounded by West Avenue, Western Avenue, 18th Street, and 22nd Street. There will be intermittent short-term lane restrictions, short-term road closures, driveway access restrictions, and street parking restrictions as the work progresses.

When will these Sioux Falls street projects be completed? It all depends on the weather. The hope is to have these roads completed in one to three weeks.

Sioux Falls drivers are encouraged to use caution and reduced speeds while traveling near the construction area and may want to consider alternate routes.

See How East 10th Street in Sioux Falls Has Changed

It's really interesting using Google Streetview to compare the changes from the earliest pictures to the latest.

For Sioux Falls, the earliest views are from 2008 and the latest from early 2022.

Some of the looks aren't the clearest, but it still gives a real good look at how dynamic the east side of Sioux Falls is.
