The official start of winter may be December 21st, but it has already been a snowy couple of weeks across South Dakota. Snowboarders and skiers across the Sioux Falls area are itching to hit the slopes at the Great Bear Ski Valley as soon as possible.

But have "snow" fear! Sioux Falls Great Bear Ski Valley made the exciting announcement that the slopes are officially opening this week!

When Is Opening Day at Great Bear Ski Valley?

With the mix of heavy snowfall and cold temperatures, it's the perfect combination for some snowmaking magic at Great Bear Ski Valley.

In a new Facebook post to all Sioux Falls winter lovers, staff at the Great Bear Ski Valley are optimistic about the upcoming season, especially with the new layers of snow on the ground at the slopes.

Sioux Falls Great Bear Ski Valley will officially open for all Season Pass Holders on Wednesday, December 10th, from 3 PM to 9 PM. The winter fun will be open to the General Public the next day, on Thursday, December 11th, from 3 PM to 9 PM.

Plan is to open with 50% of runs and the terrain park, with remaining trails not far behind! It'll be a busy weekend at The Bear making more snow & getting our staff ready to go.

Don't worry, Tubing Hill fans! The target opening date for tubing is Friday, December 19th.
