With no end in sight for the current Government Shutdown, Hy-Vee stores across South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota are stepping up to help families.

With some unable to work and federal assistance programs at risk of being cut, people feel uncertain about being able to afford food. Thankfully, Hy-Vee is providing affordable meals for communities in the Sioux Empire.

But wait, there's more! This assistant is going to go beyond the kitchen. In a new press release, officials with Hy-Vee plan to support local food banks. Hy-Vee stores will offer "$5 and $10 food bank donation bundles for customers to purchase. The bags will include items most needed by food pantries, including canned vegetables, pasta sauce, canned proteins and cereal. Stores will deliver any purchased bags to their local food pantry daily to help manage the projected increase in need."

14 Grocery Shortages South Dakota May Deal With This Winter

It seems like grocery shopping has turned into a hit-and-miss experience across the Midwest. South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa have seen empty shelves next to fully stocked ones.

All the jelly you want, but no peanut butter, for example.

The fallout from the first year of the COVID pandemic is still with us. Add to that the effect of the war in Ukraine and weather disasters.

Disruptions to global shipping and the domestic supply chain mean that you may run into a situation where you don't know if all you need will be in stock.

Winter 2022-2023 is looking to deal with several possible shortages of some grocery store favorites.

See How East 10th Street in Sioux Falls Has Changed

It's really interesting using Google Streetview to compare the changes from the earliest pictures to the latest.

For Sioux Falls, the earliest views are from 2008 and the latest from early 2022.

Some of the looks aren't the clearest, but it still gives a real good look at how dynamic the east side of Sioux Falls is.
