I don't know about yours, but my lawn is not ready for winter! Heck, my neighbor's tree (which might as well be mine) hasn't even fully unloaded its sizeable load of leaves onto my lawn yet. If snow shows up and I try to build snowmen, they'll look like mangy fall camouflage dudes.

So, it is kind of a shock to me that the leaf and branch drop-off sites are getting ready to close here in Sioux Falls. The City of Sioux Falls has announced that the sites will be closing at the end of business on Sunday, November 30.

I'm lucky to have a guy who takes care of my lawn, but I know he wasn't planning another fall cleanup until next week. So I know I'm not the only one that winter has sneaked up on.

Just in case you've forgotten where the two drop-off sites are, they're located at North Lyon Boulevard near the Sioux Empire Fairgrounds and at Chambers Street near the City’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility. Both sites are closed on Thanksgiving Day this week, but are otherwise open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12 noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The sites are free for residents to use.

The City will again open drop sites for real Christmas trees starting on Friday, December 26. Hours of operation will be Monday through Saturday, 9 AM to 5 PM, and 12 noon to 5 PM on Sunday. Both sites will be closed on New Year's Day.
