New Jersey-based DermaRite Industries LLC has recalled more than a dozen soap and sanitizer products sold over the counter, because of the potential for 'life-threatening' health complications. That after a dangerous bacterial contamination was detected.

Serious Health Risk

According to the Food and Drug Administration, the products are being pulled from store shelves due to the presence of Burkholderia cepacia, which, the Centers for Disease Control says is a bacterium that may result in serious and life-threatening infections with germs, which are found in water and soil, can spread from person to person and are difficult to treat due to their antimicrobial resistance.

Symptoms of an infection may include fever and fatigue.

Impacted Products

DermaKleen lotion soaps, PeriGiene antiseptic, and KleenFoam soap are among those that consumers should discontinue using

The products were sold nationwide and in Puerto Rico.
