How Far Does Alabama Football Fall in College Football Playoff Rankings After Loss to Oklahoma ?
Alabama's 23-21 loss to Oklahoma hurt the Crimson Tide's chances at earning a bye through the first round of the College Football Playoffs, but it was only Alabama's second loss of the season, meaning the Crimson Tide still controls its own destiny regarding making the 12-team field for the second season of the format.

Previously, Alabama was ranked No. 4, and knew that as long as it defeated Oklahoma and Auburn (with a cupcake game in Eastern Illinois sandwiched in the middle), Alabama would clinch its spot in the SEC Championship game and the College Football Playoffs, but the Crimson Tide could slip up in the Iron Bowl or in Atlanta and still make the playoffs. After the loss to the Sooners, the margin of error has disappeared, but the plan remains the same for the Crimson Tide: a win in the Iron Bowl and the SEC Championship secures the Tide's spot in the 12-team field. A loss in the Iron Bowl likely means no playoffs for the second straight season. A loss in the SEC Championship game means the Crimson Tide faithful will stay up restless on Saturday night after conference championship weekend, preparing for jubilation or heartbreak on Selection Sunday from the CFP Committee.
Tuesday night's rankings provided clarity for the Crimson Tide on where it stands in the eyes of the committee. Alabama was viewed as the best one-loss team in the country before the loss to Oklahoma, thanks largely to its resume of four-straight ranked wins over Georgia, Vanderbilt, Missouri, and Tennessee.
