It was supposed to rekindle our love for the traditional Thanksgiving Weekend Skins Game events that ran for more than 25 years, featuring the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Fred Couples, and Lee Trevino.

But last weekend's (November 23) The Match: Tiger vs. Phil, at Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas, fell well short of the mark.

Not only was the planned pay-per-view event plagued with technical issues that eventually turned it into a free event, but the head-to-head pairing of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson severely lacked the personality and drama that dominated those previous Skins Game matches from 1983 to 2008.

In this edition of 'Off The Tee', Joel Harrington from 4 Deep Golf blog and I discuss the flawed event, where it went wrong, and what might be done to make this type of exhibition viable again.

We also touch on last weekend's World Cup of Golf, which featured 28 teams vying for the title in Melbourne, Australia.

Team Belgium emerged as the winners with Thomas Pieters and Thomas Detry finishing 23-under par, four shots ahead of Mexico and Australia.

Team USA, Matt Kuchar and Kyle Stanley, suffered through a second-round 79 and finished 14 shots back of the leaders - tied for 16th.
