World Archery Tournament in Yankton Just a Few Days Away

YANKTON, S.D. (AP) — Archers from around the world will be in Yankton next week for a world championship.

The city is hosting the 2015 World Archery Youth Championships. Up to 1,000 people are expected. The Daily Press & Dakotan reports the opening ceremony is Sunday afternoon, with competition beginning Monday and running through the following Sunday.

The Switzerland-based World Archery Federation announced last June that the National Field Archery Association Easton Yankton Archery Center would host the event. Yankton beat out several other locations, including Mexico City. The tournament is expected to draw about 600 competitors from 60 countries.

The World Youth Championships are held every two years. The last two tournaments were in China and Poland. The last U.S. city to host was Ogden, Utah, near Salt Lake City, in 2009.
