Great News: Oakland Raiders are Off to Las Vegas
The Oakland Raiders will be no more as the organization will be moving to Las Vegas after the NFL owners paved the way with a 31-1 vote today (March 27). The lone organization to vote against the move was the Miami Dolphins according to ESPN.
This has been a 14-month push from Raiders owner Mark Davis to move from Oakland to Las Vegas.
Personally, I think it is a great move for the NFL and the Raiders.
The city of Oakland dropped the ball for too long and even their latest effort was so full of flaws that even Commissioner Roger Goodell addressed it on Sunday. Whether you agree with it or not, the simple cause and effect of dragging your heels or failing to come up with the public money for a new stadium will cause your NFL team to leave.
The examples are front and center with the Raiders, Chargers and Rams all heading to move inviting cities. The Minnesota Vikings are a prime example of a city ponying up and having a organization stay instead of leave.
From a selfish standpoint, I love the move even more, because I know I will be attending more Raiders games with a long weekend trip to Vegas culminating with a Raiders game on a Sunday.
Each NFL owner also benefited netting approximately $50 million per team with the relocation fee being split up.
The Raiders will still play in Oakland in 2017 and maybe longer, while the new stadium is built in Las Vegas.
