The third week of the NFL's 2025 season kicked off with a bang as the high-flying Bills played host to the struggling Miami Dolphins at Highmark Stadium in the suburbs of Buffalo. The Bills and Dolphins, who faced each other a total of 124 times since 1966, know each other well and have had one of the most prolific rivalries in professional sports.
This game, which had big implications for both teams as the Bills are working on solidifying thier dominance in the NFL while the Dolphins are in real trouble of being in the basement of the league, did not disappoint football fans who got to watch Thursday Night Football on Amazon.
The game got started fast for Miami, which scored first as Ollie Gordon II was able to take a two-yard run into the end zone for a touchdown. Miami didn't hold the lead for very long as Josh Allen and the Bills' offense is hard to stop.
On his way to setting a new NFL record, Josh Allen tossed a couple of touchdown passes to tight ends Dalton Kincaid and Jackson Hawes, giving them a 14-7 lead early in the second quarter.
After a missed Matt Prater field goal gave Miami some life, Tua Tagovailoa drove the Dolphins down the field and tossed a 3-yard pass to Jaylen Waddle as he hopped into the end zone to score a touchdown as the second quarter drew to a close.
The second half of the game saw the Bills drive down and score their third touchdown of the game on James Cook's 2-yard run. The Bills did a good job of controlling the 3rd quarter, while maintaining thier 7-point lead.
That is until the top of the 4th quarter when Tagovailoa threw his second touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill, which tied the game at 21.
The game wasn't tied for long as Josh Allen tossed his 3rd touchdown pass of the game, the 200th regular-season touchdown of his career, with Khalil Shakir grabbing a swing pass and turning on the speed to scamper 15 yards into the end zone.
For a while, towards the end of the 4th quarter, it seemed like the Dolphins were driving towards another score to tie the game, but Bills linebacker Terrel Bernard had other plans as he snatched a pass from Tagovailoa and returned the interception 23 yards. That turnover led to a 48-yard field goal from Matt Prater.
This big victory against the Dolphins brings the Bills' move once more game closer to tying the all-time match-up against Miami, which the Dolphins lead with 62 wins, against the Bills' 61 wins. The two teams had one game that ended in a tie in 1968.
