It's Almost Time For South Dakota Singers To Sign-Up for 'Idol'

If you're a singer in South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota who's looking for a big break, a major television singing competition show is looking for South Dakota singers.

American Idol auditions are coming to the Sioux Empire very soon! This is a great opportunity for local singers to showcase their talents in front of top-notch TV producers and executives. However, South Dakota singers won't have to travel to bigger cities to have a chance to perform in front of the Idol judges.

With the power of technology, potential contestants can submit a video through social media. South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota singers can also audition through Zoom meetings.

The singers would wait in the Zoom room until their names are called. This one audition could give you the chance to be the next Carrie Underwood, Scotty McCreery, or even Minnesota's own Chris Tungseth.

One American Idol producer says she loves that digital auditions are opening doors for all singers across the country. The American Idol crew could not be more excited to audition more singers.

“That’s exciting for us this year. We’re busy, but we love it. All through August, we’re doing auditions, and we have online auditions where people can submit videos. We see everything — every single person and every note sung.”

So when can South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota singers audition for American Idol?

Auditions for all Iowa and Minnesota singers will be on Tuesday, September 1st. South Dakota singers will have a chance to audition on the following Tuesday, September 8th. If you miss these dates, then all singers can participate in a nationwide call on Friday, September 11th. These virtual auditions for the first round will be face-to-face with a producer, who will provide real-time feedback.

The 10 Most Redneck Towns in South Dakota

Are you a 'Redneck?' I guess to some people, all of us in South Dakota are rednecks.

If we use the Jeff Foxworthy Scale of Redneckeness, I have, in fact, been too drunk to fish. So by definition, I am a redneck. And so are many people I know.

Not that being from the country is a bad thing, and it can be fun to poke fun at ourselves.

With that in mind, we found that the folks at RoadSnacks put together a list that claims 'These Are The 10 Most Redneck Cities In South Dakota.'

What is a Redneck?

The dictionary says that a redneck is someone "...who lives in a small town or in the country, especially in the southern U.S., who typically has a working-class job, and who is seen by others as being uneducated and having opinions and attitudes that are offensive."

Well, a few things. First, South Dakota isn't THAT kind of 'south.' We're to the south of North Dakota, but to the north of 'The South.'

Plus that definition sounds awful mean and serious. I thought we were having fun here.

RoadSnacks leaned into the funny, Jeff Foxworthy-based version of a redneck. Then they rounded up select data on places in SD to determine their rankings. RoadSnacks Redneck Criteria:

Small towns
Least amount of high school graduates
Number of bars per city
Number of mobile home parks per capita
Number of tobacco stores per city
Number of places to get fishing gear
Number of guns and ammo stores per city
Walmarts, Bass Pro Shops, and dollar stores nearby
