Nebraska Preview: Cornhuskers at #13 Penn State

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have picked a bad week to try and bounce back from one of their worst losses in recent memory.

The Big Red travels to State College, Pennsylvania, Saturday (November 18), where they will take the field as four touchdown underdogs to Penn State.

Unlike Nebraska, the Nittany Lions (8-2/5-2 Big Ten) have plenty to play for.

They are two wins away from landing a spot in a New Year's Day bowl game and still have an outside shot at representing the East Division in the Big Ten Championship game.

Penn State has the third overall offense in the Big Ten thanks to the tandem of quarterback Trace McSorley and running back Saquan Barkley.

McSorley is the league's top passer and is coming in off a game where he completed 76 percent of his passes against Rutgers.

Barkley is the number-two rusher in the Big Ten (90 yards per game), despite only eclipsing 100 yards in game once in the last six games. That could change Saturday as he faces a Husker defense that is 105th in the nation against the run.

The offensive line has been a question mark for the Nittany Lions. They've allowed the fifth most tackles for loss in all of FBS.

Defensively, Penn State has a very talented front seven that has done two things very well in 2017 - get to the quarterback and force turnovers. The Nittany Lion defense has 29 sacks and has recovered 12 fumbles in ten games.

The Huskers (4-6/3-4 Big Ten) had a bad day in just about every facet of the game in a 54-21 loss at Minnesota, last Saturday (November 11).

Nebraska gave up a touchdown on the opening kickoff, allowed a season-high 409 yards rushing, and gave up a season-high six sacks against a Gopher team that had lost five of six coming in.

To add injury to insult, just before halftime, the Huskers lost starting quarterback Tanner Lee to a concussion. He's close to being cleared for the Penn State game, but if he can't go, backup Patrick O'Brien would get his first career start.
