Adam Vinatieri Enters Free Agency With No Plans to Retire
Adam Vinatieri is entering free agency after 12 seasons with the Colts and the long-time kicker from SDSU has no plans to be done yet.
Vinatieri entered the league in 1996 with the New England Patriots. After 10 years with the Patriots and three Super Bowls, Vinatieri signed with the Indianapolis Colts for the 2006 season. He was with the Colts for their Super Bowl victory over the Bears that year, and has continued to play for the Colts through 2017.
His contract is up and it's time for Vinatieri to enter the NFL free agency pool once again. The 45-year old wants to continue playing football and will look to sign with a team for the 2018 season, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
He has continued to prove that age is just a number at this point in his career. Last season, Vinatieri was 23-34 on field goals (85%) and 22-24 on PATs. His longest field goal last season was 54 yards, and he was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week after going 4-4 against San Francisco.
His career records include hitting 44 field goals in a row, was named to the NFL 2000s All-Decade team, and was named to the Pro Bowl three times. All that in addition to the four Super Bowl's that he won.
There's still a chance he could re-sign with the Colts, but there will be teams looking for a kicker or an updated one. Who knows, maybe he'll come up north and kick for the team that is closest to his home state.
