Another Change for Sioux Falls I-29 Diverging Diamond Interchange
There's some bad news and some good news surrounding the Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) project at I-29 and 41st Street in Sioux Falls.
The bad news?
The traffic pattern associated with the project is changing again.
The good news?
This is expected to be the final change before the two-year project is completed.
Starting Monday (May 20), westbound traffic will be diverted to the south side of 41st Street starting at the east end of the bridge. Traffic will then move back to the north side of 41st Street at the west end of the bridge. Eastbound traffic will remain in its current configuration.
Traffic will be maintained for one lane in each direction on either side of the bridge. All on-ramps and off-ramps will be open, except for the westbound traffic on the northbound off-ramp.
This is part of the final phase of the project, which began in April 2022. All lanes of the DDI will open at the end of June.
According to the project's website:
'The DDI resembles a conventional diamond interchange. Drivers make right turns at a DDI just as they would at a regular diamond interchange. Drivers who want to turn left cross over to the left side of the road and then make their left turn. Because traffic is on the left side of the road between the crossover points, all left turns occur without having to cross opposing traffic.'
