Celebrate Women’s History With A Free Movie Night In Sioux Falls
You don't get a lot of opportunities to enjoy a night of free entertainment these days, but you'll have your chance later this month in downtown Sioux Falls.
March 16th is the next Free Monday Movie at the State Theater on Phillips Avenue. Showtime is 7:00 PM.
The event is sponsored by AARP South Dakota.

This month's feature film is Hidden Figures.
This 2016 film is loosely based on the Margot Lee Shetterly book of the same about three female African-American mathematicians, Katherine Goble Johnson (played by Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (played by Octavia Spencer), and Mary Jackson (played by Janelle Monáe), who worked at NASA during the Space Race in the 1950s and 1960s.
The film also stars Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst, and Jim Parsons.
Hidden Figures was nominated in three categories at the 89th Academy Awards in 2017:
- Best Picture - (lost to Moonlight)
- Best Supporting Actress - Octavia Spencer (lost to Viola Davis for Fences)
- Best Adapted Screenplay - (lost to Moonlight)
It earned $236 million, against a budget of $25 million.
The Sioux Falls showing is open to AARP members and non-members alike. Tickets are free but must be reserved in advance.
