Off The Tee: 2017 British Open Recap
Going in the final round of the 2017 British Open, Jordan Spieth was sitting on a three-stroke lead over Matt Kuchar, with 18 holes to play.
At the end of the day Sunday, Spieth was hoisting the Claret Jug at Royal Birkdale, after finishing three strokes ahead of Kuchar on the final leader board.
If you didn't see it, you might think Spieth coasted to his third major victory, but that was about as far from reality as you can get.
After bogeying three of the first four holes to give up the lead, Spieth regained his composure until a wild tee shot on 13 again put his title hopes in jeopardy.
But after one of the greatest recoveries in major golf history, he responded with a birdie-eagle-birdie-birdie finish to win his third major at age 23.
In this edition of 'Off The Tee', Joel Harrington from 4 Deep Golf , and I, talk about the fantastic finish at Royal Birkdale.
Joel and I also discuss:
- Matt Kuchar's runner-up finish and surprise visit from his family Sunday.
- Rory McIlroy needed a pep talk from his caddie to to the finish tired for fourth.
- Historically low rounds - Branden Grace's 62 Saturday, Hao Tong Li's 63 Sunday.
- Two weeks after a near penalty at the Irish Open, another Jon Rahm rules controversy Thursday at the British Open.
