Some people may think the optimum age for women to participate in the occasional "Girls Night Out" is in their 20s and 30s.  But surprisingly, a new study reveals that women who are over the age of 50 are drinking more.  What's more shocking?  These women are admitting it.

Recovery.org conducted a new survey that asked over 3,000 women over 50-years-old about their drinking habits.  Overall, 19% of women over the age of 50 admit to drinking more, especially at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The study from Recovery.org examined its results by state.  So what about the women from South Dakota? Are more ladies popping a wine cork or cracking open a beer?  The answer...most likely they are.

One in ten women over 50 in South Dakota admit to drinking more now than they did when they were in their 20s and 30s.  That accounts for about 7% of the women in the state.

So why are women drinking more?  Well besides the pandemic, reality television shows are the true culprits behind this revelation.   Recovery.org   explains that "20% say they are influenced to drink more when watching reality TV shows, such as Real Housewives, that celebrate drinking culture. This is perhaps understandable, especially because many are watching these shows while home on the couch, unable to partake in any form of socializing for the moment."

According to the study, peer pressure and women who are in long-term relationships also influence how much women drink.
