Super Bowl Party Recipes: Bacon-Wrapped Weenies
Whether attending or hosting a Super Bowl party, no gathering is complete without great food. So with Super Bowl LI right around the corner, here are some of my personal favorite Super Bowl party dishes, starting in this article with the appetizer course.
Bacon-Wrapped Weenies
2 packages of little weenies (smokies)
2 pounds of bacon
Toothpicks
9x13 pan(s)
Wrap each weenie with half of a strip of bacon. Stick a toothpick through each bacon-wrapped weenie to hold the bacon in place. Place the weenies in a gently-greased 9x13 pan(s). Optional: place tin foil in the pan before lightly greasing if you prefer "chewier" bacon-wrapped weenies.
After all the weenies are wrapped in bacon and placed in the pan(s), sprinkle the weenies with brown sugar. The brown sugar is what will "caramelize" the bacon and add that slight "crunch" to the edges.
Either before the process begins or after the weenies are prepared (it really doesn't matter), preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Once the oven is heated, place the weenies in the oven and cook for 30 minutes (you can also cook at 350 degrees for 45 minutes). Cook until the bacon and weenies caramelize and brown (or until your desired darkness).
Remove the pans from the oven, let the weenies sit for five to 10 minutes and serve.
Bacon-wrapped weenies are my "go-to" Super Bowl party appetizer and are always a hit. Try out this recipe at your Super Bowl party this weekend.
