Super Bowl Party Recipes: Gene’s Beans
Whether attending or hosting a Super Bowl party, no gathering is complete without great food. Gene's Beans are a Zylstra family classic and serve as a great dip for chips, especially with Fritos Scoops.
Gene's Beans
1 pound of ground beef
1 pound of Jimmy Dean maple-flavored sausage
1 pound of little smokies with Cheddar, cut in pieces
1 can of kidney beans
1 can of black beans
1 can of Louisiana red beans (your choice of heat/spiciness)
1 can of picante beans
1 can of pinto beans
1 can of navy beans
Salt
1 teaspoon of oregano
1 teaspoon of basil
1 teaspoon of sage
2 cups of ketchup (or to taste)
1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
1/2 a cup of dill pickle juice
1 tablespoon of dill
2 tablespoons of wet mustard
1 medium onion, diced
1 large green bell pepper, diced
1/2 a teaspoon of garlic salt
BBQ spice/rub (optional)
Brown the ground beef and sausage with the onion and pepper. Add salt to taste. Place all the other ingredients in a crockpot (beans and spices).
Mix all the ingredients, including the meat and peppers, in the crockpot after the meat is brown. Cook in the crockpot on high for a few hours.
It's easiest to serve Gene's Beans directly from the crockpot, but a large bowl will also suffice.
An advantage of Gene's Beans is that whatever is left over can be tossed in a freezer and saved for another day.
The photo and long recipe list don't do Gene's Beans justice. Gene's Beans are a perfect side for any Super Bowl party. So grab some Fritos Scoops or tortilla chips, make Gene's Beans and let your tastebuds do the rest.
