Opening Day is right around the corner! The Minnesota Twins have selected their Opening Day starter and their early rotation for the 2018 season.

Jake Odorizzi has been given the nod as the MLB Opening Day starter for the Minnesota Twins according to Twins beat writer Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. Odorizzi was acquired in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays back in February. Kyle Gibson, Jose Berrios, and Lance Lynn will round out the four-pitcher rotation to start the season.

Earlier this week on Overtime, one of the questions for our game "Are You Smarter Than Jerry P?" was to name one starting pitcher for the Twins. My mind went right to Phil Hughes and we counted it correct on Wednesday. As of Thursday my answer would have technically be wrong. Hughes won't be in the starting rotation until April 11 at the earliest with him starting the season as a relief pitcher. Minnesota also awaits the return of Ervin Santana following offseason surgery.

The Twins will open the season on March 29 in Baltimore. They will play three games over four days in Baltimore before flying to Pittsburgh to play the Pirates for a two game set. Minnesota will open the home schedule on April 5 against Seattle.
