With the current state of athletics in a downward spiral at the University of Nebraska, the Cornhuskers made a move this week to hopefully shore up the future with the hiring of new athletic director Bill Moos.

Moos comes to Lincoln after seven years at Washington State with previous stops at Oregon and Montana.

He replaces Shawn Eichorst who was fired September 21.

The Moos hiring was made official just days after the Husker football program suffered its worst home loss since 1949, a 56-14 setback to Ohio State, dropping the Big Red to 3-4 overall, 2-2 in the Big Ten.

This game was over early, as the Buckeyes scored touchdowns on their first eight possessions, while Nebraska managed just 15 plays for 34 yards and a first down the first four times they touched the ball.

The Cornhuskers now have a week off before playing the final five games of the season, starting next Saturday night (October 28) at Purdue.

Head coach Mike Riley and his staff are hoping the bye week will give some of Nebraska's injured players a chance to get healthy for the final month of the season.

Wide receiver JD Spielman (shoulder) and defensive backs Joshua Kalu (hamstring), Aaron Williams (neck), and Antonio Reed (knee) are all expected to benefit from the extra time.

The status of running back Tre Bryant isn't as promising. A knee injury has kept the sophomore off the field since game two. Now, Bryant may be considering a medical redshirt this season.

I talked with the 'Voice of the Huskers', Greg Sharpe, about the injuries, the Ohio State debacle, and the Bill Moos hiring:
