Usain Bolt: Gay’s Reduced Doping Ban Sends Wrong Message

LONDON (AP) — Usain Bolt says American sprint rival Tyson Gay got off lightly and should have been kicked out of the sport for doping.

Gay received a reduced one-year suspension in 2013 after testing positive for a steroid at the U.S. championships. He got the lighter penalty because he provided evidence to the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency that led to an eight-year ban for coach Jon Drummond.

Bolt, the Jamaican who has won six Olympic gold medals and holds the world record in the 100 and 200 meters, says he was "really upset" with the decision to let Gay cut a deal.

In an interview with Runner's World magazine published in The Times of London newspaper Friday, Bolt says "it's the stupidest thing I've ever heard" and sends the wrong message.
